Arriving Wheaton College

Wheaton College purchased the Hellenistic terracotta figure of lady by Newell Bequest fund from the Edward H. Merrin Gallery. The object was listed on the catelog of masterpieces from the gallery. It was the first catalogue of classical art since 1977, these were finest and most appealing objects that selected by the gallery. These include works from Egypt, the Ancient Near East, Greece, and Rome. The media range fom stone to papyrus, from bronze and copper to silver and gold, and from terracotta to precious stones. The objects illustratedm however, have not been chosen strictly as represntative pieces from these diverse cultures. The object arrived in 1985, and the associate director Linda Shildkrant from the Merrin Gallery wrote a letter about the authenticity test about the object called thermoluminescence test to Sandra Davidson, the director of Watson Gallery in Wheaton College. The object is believed in good condition and authentic Hellenistic period Tanagra figurine.
