Freidrich Carl Bauermeister

Freidrich Carl Bauermeister was a rare bookseller and collector who lived at the address of 49 Gordon Street, Glasgow. He was born in 1864, and lived at this address until at least 1900. Bauermeister was married to Mary Ellen Steemson, and owned and operated a rare bookstore. He first launched his business in the 1890s in Glasgow and eventually expanded to Edinburgh. Unfortunately, t is not clear how the Opera Omnia volumes made their way from Bologna, Italy to Glasgow over the course of about 200 years.

There is little other biographical information available about Bauermeister. Records indicate that he was a subscriber to the American Society of Naval Engineers, which suggests that he was interested in American culture and conventions. Bauermeister was in possession of the thirteen volume set until March 1898, when they became a part of the Library of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons's collection in Glasgow.
