Greek Black-Figure Attic Amphora

Greek Black-Figure Attic Amphora was purchased by Wheaton College with the Newell Bequest Fund in 1981. Created by an unidentified Vase-Painter (thought to be of the Three-line Group) circa 500 BCE, the amphora depicts two scenes: Hermes, Athena and Herakles, who is leading Kerberos; the other side depicts two men listening to a man playing the Cithara (believed to be Orpheus). The amphora traversed a few collectors before arriving at Wheaton.
