Phillips Auction House

After Steven Straw was indited on his charges, all of the paintings in his collection were sold to to make up the difference of what he owed. Montclair Meadows was taken over by the auction house Phillips, through which it was later sold to Joanna Salvo, the owner of the painting. Phillips is an iconic auction house that's been in existence since 1796 when it was created by Henry Phillips. It was originally based in London but is now also based in New York City. The auction that Joanna Salvo attended occurred on May 2nd, 1980 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel is a historic buidling located in Copley Square. Although the timing can not be pinpointed exactly, it is known tht Steven Straw was charged in December of 1979 and the auction that Joanna Salvo attended occurred in May of 1980, so it is obvious that it is most likely that Phillips only had Montclair Meadows for about five months. Joanna Salvo, an art history student, has a keen eye for art and immediately picked out the Inness at the auction and purchased it that day.
