Joanna Salvo

Joanna Salvo, Wheaton College Class of 1981, bought the painting on May 2nd, 1980 in Boston. Joanna Salvo herself is a distnguished art historian who received her Masters in Art History and has become an expert on James McNeill Whistler. At some point in her life, Joanna Salvo wrote a paper on George Inness and both his technique and lifestyle, so she is very familiar with Inness's work. She now lives in Newport, Rhode Island where she is continuously involved in philanthropic efforts. She has loaned Wheaton many works of art (including La Marchande de Moutarde pictured above) and her generosity has enabled many students to learn firsthand from major works of art. The painting is on loan to Wheaton by Mrs. Salvo and continues to aid the education of Wheaton students of 19th century landscape art.
