Grinnell College

Wood's print made its way to Grinnell College of Iowa within the same year it left Lawrence University, upon the departure of President Barrows (till 1972). It is unknown whether there was another owner between the same year Lawrence sold the print. However, it is likely that there was another owner between its time at Lawrence and Grinnell beacause both institutions have no record of any specific owner. It would have been well documented if it had been formally turned-over to either institution prior or post ownership.

Furthermore, the print was not actually located in the college's collections. It had been in private possession for the purpose of sale once the college needed the funds for a scholarship program in the mid-2000s. A page from the Live Autioneers shows the Wood print and documents that the property was sold to Benefit the Scholarship Fund of Grinnell College, at 10:00am on May 3, 1942. This source substantiates the email correspondence with Kay Wilson, curator at Grinnell's Archives and Special Collections.

The works were sold by Leslie Hindman Auction in Chicago. They were never in the Grinnell College Art Collection.

Donors Mr. and Mrs James Jackson (now deceased) purchased the print in about 1979 from Grinnell.
