Newell Bequest and Wheaton College

The Neo-Sumerian Offering Stand was bequested to Wheaton college by Adra Newell in 1967. The Newell Bequest was the largest donation to the Permanent Collection in Wheaton College history. The bequest contained a vast collection of coins, a multitude of glasswork, as well as the Neo-Sumerian Offering Stand. Since its aquisition by Wheaton the Offering Stand has been studied by notable numismatic and archeological scholars including Benjamin Foster, a leading intellectual in Mesopotamian history. It was appraised in 1993 and valued at $10000.
