Mary Stone Dewing Morain

Mary Stone Dewing Morain was the daughter of Arthur Stone Dewing and Frances Hall Rousmaniere Dewing. Mary studied at Simmons and Radcliffe College where she earned her B.A. and went on to the University of Chicago where she earned her masters. After graduation Mary went into the life of social reforming and was a secular humanist. She wrote several books and later became of the president of Planned Parenthood Association in Boston. Mary Stone Dewing Morain had bought the Lekythos from the Dewing Greek Numismatic Foundation in 1976; she then went on to give the Lekythos to the Wheaton College Permanent Collection in 1977 to honor Arthur Stone Dewing's friendship with Wheaton Classics professor Eunice Works. The Red-Figure Attic Lekythos was then recognized by the Wheaton College Collection as a significant object and was then featured in the Watson Gallery Notes.
