Meredith Long & Company

According to the auction records from Phillips, which sold the painting in 1981, it was in the collection of Meredith Long and Company based in Houston, Texas. A fine art gallery specializing in 19th and 20th century American paintings, Meredith Long and Company was founded in 1957. The gallery is known to have held paintings by George Inness among other famous American artists. More recently they have begun to hold exhibits focused on contemporary art. Unfortunately, it is unknown whether or not Meredith Long & Company has records of the presence of Montclair Meadows in their gallery. It is not clear when Montclair Meadows was acquired by the gallery, but it next went to a private art dealer in Tennessee named Douglas James.
