Barbara Owen

This page scan of the American Women's Voluntary Services: Second Anniversary Yearbook of the Omaha Unit, based out of Omaha Nebraska, features a woman in the top left corner (figure 1) listed as Mrs. Edward Owen. Based on genological research, there is a good chance that she is Barbara Owen, the woman who purchased the uniform set from Ginnie Scripps Pace at an unspecified date. While this yearbook page is taken from a chapter of the A.W.V.S. based out of Nebraska, Mrs. Owen also appears later in census records from Wayne, Michigan. Such a move would not be out of the question, and her age - 41 in the 1950 census - agrees with the youthful image displayed in this photograph, which was taken eight years earlier.

There is a possibility, especially with discovering Mrs. Owen's potential connection with the A.W.V.S., that Ginnie Scripps Pace's ownership of the uniform set was misattributed, and that the set actually belonged to Barbara Owen the whole time. However, like most of the information pertaining to this research, it is difficult to say much about the uniform's origins with any semblance of confidence. With this in mind, it should be accepted that there are some things that will never be known for certain.
