Clayton L. Curtis

The Harlem River (Rivershacks) was restored, by Clayton Curtis, an artist himself who resides in Massachusetts and was a patient of Dr. Kozol.  Clayton Curtis, who works in oil, pastel and watercolor, as well as black and white photography, graduated from the Boston University School of Fine Art, with a B.F.A. and M.F.A. He is the retired Fine Art Director of the Swampscott Public Schools. He has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally.  His work is in the permanent collections of Boston College, Colby College, Wheaton College and Quincy College, and numerous private collections. Luckily, I was, indeed, able to obtain information about Curtis and where he resides which is in Saugus, MA. I did a Family Ancestry search of his name and discovered his home address which is 48 Fairmont Ave, Saugus, MA. If he restored the painting at his home, The Harlem River (Rivershacks) was most likely in Saugus. A letter dating from December 15, 1979 from Curtis to the Kozols reads that he restored the painting and was later relined by the Fogg Art Museum the same year.
